Coalition Team Medics Treats Burned Boy

Coalition Team Medics Treats Burned BoySeverely Burned Child Receives Care And Assistance

For young Iraqi Yosef Kasim, being a kid in Baghdad is a daily adventure.  His family does not have electricity, and no running water.  They live in the Five Farms area of the city, which until not long ago was filled with Al-Qaida terrorists that helped themselves to supplies and wreaked violence on everyone around.

So life was already hard.  But then he accidentally became severely burned.

Medics from Coalition forces treated Kasim for burns that he received chasing the family cat around the fire.  Yosef fell and landed in the boiling stew that his mother was cooking and burned his leg quite badly.

Coalition Medics have followed up with Yosef since his incident and report that Yosef seems to be healing quite nicely.  “We treated his burns two weeks ago, and it appears he will be just fine,” said one of the medics who treated young Yosef.

Terrorists and insurgents were forces out of Yosef’s neighborhood with the advent of the troop surge, and have not been allowed to return.  As troops went house to house to clean out the insurgents, it was then that Yosef and his burns were discovered and treated, first on December 13th, and twice since in follow up visits from U.S. Forces medics.

“We first met Yosef and he would just lie there crying, he was so miserable,” said Medic Staff Sgt Antonio Ellison.  They treated Yosef and his burns, administering pain medication and lotion.  Yosef had second-degree burns on about nine percent of his body

“We are happy to report that Yosef is healing well,” said Ellison.
