While it may not be the primary reason for joining the service, the ability to travel the world is one of the great benefits of being in the U.S. Military.There are U.S. military institutions on most of the continents of the Earth, and missions around the world.
This means that military members may be called on a moment’s notice to any of the numerous locations that the military is stationed around the world for a variety of reasons.
The career that a person in the military chooses may also mean a great deal of world travel. For example, those in intelligence gathering and supply delivery will travel more than others.
There is a great deal of benefit to a person who has the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures, including a greater understanding of the world in which the military operates and understanding others’ views of the U.S.
Many members of the military say the opportunity to travel and experience other cultures is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a member of the military.

There may be some opportunities to travel on military flights for free. This is known as “Space Available Travel,” and is open to servicemembers and their immediate families. Since it cannot be scheduled and reserved in advance, this travel, also known as “Space A” or “military hops” travel, can be a great way to get home for leave or take a vacation.
