Military electricians get excellent, paid training and experience with all kinds of electrical wiring, including heavy-duty commercial wiring. This makes them extremely versatile and employable in any post military career, and vital to the military while they are active.
An electrician lights hospitals and powers up computers, both temporarily and permanently, depending on the mission. They will install and repair the wiring in houses and offices, repair facilities, and aircraft hangars and any other military facilities.
On any given day, they may be asked to wire transformers or junction boxes, prepare circuit breakers, strip and cut wire, and use a variety of electrician’s tools.
Essential skills for electricians, skills that they will learn in the military, include reading blueprints and wiring plans, and understanding repair orders in order to carry out needed repairs.
Using wire and conduits, including cutting, bending and stringing wires as necessary, are also part of the electrician’s daily tasks, as is inspecting the electrical systems and identifying any shorts or faulty equipment.
The electrician may be called in to install lightening rods on buildings or temporary structures to protect the installed electrical systems.

If a recruit is interested in being an electrician, it would be helpful if they have the ability to use hand tools and have an interest in electricity.
