On Sunday North Korea bragged on their military after the test firing of seven ballistic missiles. It appears that they are more confident than ever in the power of their military. The newspaper of North Korea reported on the event calling Kim Jong-Il’s method a “army first policy.” The paper also stated that the missiles from North Korea could be used to attack other nations in a “merciless” manner.
The paper stated, that North Korea now has the framework to produce any necessary weapons to attack other nations and defend North Korea.
Currently the UN is still banning such missile launches from North Korea. There is talk of further sanctions and punishments for the nation because of their continual disregard for rules developed by the UN. However I don’t believe further sanctions and mediocre action will do the trick. Something needs to change. We either need to enter into negotiations with North Korea or we need to truly flex our muscles in an effort to intimidate the nation once and for all. I feel that the best course is to gain an audience with the leader of North Korea and have a civilized discussion.
Do you think that we can continue on this path with North Korea? What should we change if the current plan is not working? Should we even consider using force to stop North Korea? Can Obama straiten this mess out by meeting with Kim Jong-Il?
