North Korea’s Temper Tantrum

Written by Jonathan Formby

For those of you who have not heard, North Korea launched 6 missiles into the Sea of Japan on Saturday in order to spit at the face of America during our independence day. It is clear now that North Korea is nothing but a recognition hungry nation. The Vice President stated that North Korea is continually seeking after attention from the global community. He stated, “Look, this has almost become predictable behavior . . . some of it seems like almost attention-seeking behavior.”

This recent act of rebellion brings back memories of July 4 2006 when North Korea fired it’s Taepodong II missile with six other missiles.

So why this most recent act of defiance? Currently the US is lobbying for tougher enforcement of sanctions which will make it more difficult for North Korea to procure and produce deadly weapons. The North is not about to let their nuclear power aspirations go lightly. I believe that more than anything, North Korea is trying to instill fear and uncertainty in the global community. If they can make people afraid, they will have accomplished their mission. In making nations fearful they gain much needed leverage which will secure them better negotiating power and more respect in diplomatic global situations. North Korea has never had the respect of the global community. That is why they are trying to flex their muscles in order to appear strong and merit respect.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Action needs to be taken now to disable this nuclear program in North Korea. Regardless of what Obama chooses to do, we must do something before this country develops and perfects more weapons. The longer we wait the more powerful they will become.
