On Monday Obama’s administration stated that they have never encouraged Israel to attack Iran. Rumors have been floating around that the US has encouraged or agreed to let Israel attack Iran. Additionally Obama’s administration denied that they are considering engaging Iran in diplomatic talks.
The issue came about when Vice President Biden stated that the US will not be held responsible for the actions of Israel. Naturally this could be interpreted as us encouraging Israel or giving our blessing for an attack on Iran. In reality, this very well could be the case.
The Nuclear Negotiator for Iran commented on Biden’s statements saying that the US will be held liable by Iran for an attack from Israel.
Ian Kelly, the State Department Spokesperson attempted to clear the air stating, “I certainly would not want to give a green light to any kind of military action.” He continued to say, “We’re not going to dictate its (Israel’s) actions.”
What do you make of this relationship? The US and Israel are certainly allies. However I don’t think that we can be held responsible for an Israeli attack on Iran. The only way that we would be brought into the situation is if we financed such an attack by giving money or weapons to Israel so that they could attack Iran. Other than that, I think it is crazy that Iran would hold us accountable. Frankly, I don’t think they should want to hold us accountable. Do they really want to engage the world’s strongest power?
