For those of you with family in Iraq, how do you feel when talking to other Americans about the issue? I have noticed a general trend of Americans which can sometimes be summed up as the “I don’t care” attitude. When you encounter these people who claim that we went to war for the wrong reasons, how do you handle them? If you have a loved on who has fought for this country and the peace and freedom of the Iraqi people, how do you handle yourself when someone says we have wasted our time there?
I think that in general, the American people have difficulty understanding the tangibility of the war because they have never seen or smelt it. Most Americans see men overseas in camo holding guns but it is simply something on TV. If they have no family and recognize no one in the tv, they are bound to have a less than realistic understanding of the situation. Granted I am not saying that this is always the case. However you must understand that most people simply don’t understand the war in Iraq very well. It is a detached battle. If you ever encounter these people, show them a picture of your loved one who has gone away to battle. That really solidifies the truth that there are fathers and brothers and sisters and mothers in Iraq.
