Our Technological Military

Written by Jonathan Formby

Yesterday I discussed the future of unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs which got me onto a tangent talking about the role technology plays in our military. With every technology it is important to weigh both he pros and cons. Most people don’t realize it but technology can have some serious backlashes. For example, the period we are in now is completely unprecedented. We are in an age where the world is shrinking. Trade is now a fine tuned science. Nations can import products from other nations more easily now than ever. With that, you have increased illegal arms and weapons importation. For example Iran has been able to continually import supplies for building destructive weapons. Such a feat would not have been so easily accomplished years ago when technology played less a role in our daily lives. That brings me to my next point – technology has built all of the dangerous weapons of our time. Again, I am not thrashing technology and innovation. These are the things which has made America great. Rather I am only saying that we need to realize the negatives that come with modern innovations. Additionally the internet has allowed us to become more knowledgeable in every field. This has lead to greater military progressions for the USA which everyone would be in favor of. However it has also made it easier for nations to hack into our government systems. The same is true for satellites. They are so important to our lives yet they also cause harm.

What is my point in saying this? Basically I just want you to evaluate the state of our military. As we become more dependent on technology we sacrifice certain things and new evils are created. I am not saying that we should stop using technology. I am only asking that you thing about the reaction of our actions.
