On Monday Obama stated that the United States and China have an “important” relationship. His comments were part of discussions in Washington where he addressed issues such as the economy and international affairs with countries like China. “The relationship between the United States and China will shape the 21st century, which makes it as important as any bilateral relationship in the world,” Obama commented. He continued to assert, “That reality must underpin our partnership. That is the responsibility we bear.”
In all truth, I don’t usually agree with the President. However I couldn’t agree more with his comments about China. China is the next great global power. They are the strongest emerging nation with the greatest trade potential for the United States. If we can have a mutually beneficial relationship with China, both economies will prosper and we will always be able to avoid war with China. As long as the US continues to boost the Chinese economy, it is unlikely that they would ever turn aggressive towards the US. Additionally, China backs more US debt than any other nation in the world. In real terms, we NEED the Chinese. We would be in some serious trouble without their help. And they are in an excellent position from a lending standpoint. They are collecting interest from the world’s safest government or entity. Obama and the Chinese President agreed that the nations need a “positive, constructive, and comprehensive relationship.”
The President of China, Hu Jintao stated, “Our two countries should endeavor to expand common ground, reduce differences, enhance mutual trust and strengthen cooperation.”
I couldn’t agree more with those comments. Is there any downside to a relationship with the Chinese?
