Venezuelan President Chavez has sounded off against the new relationship between the United States and Columbia stating that he fears the two nations will try to attack him. Specifically he stated that he did not want to be invaded by the “Yankee military force.”
Columbia is allowing the US to occupy seven bases which has been highly rejected by Chavez. Chavez further stated that the “winds of war are beginning to blow.”
I find it very interesting how threatened Chavez is by the US occupancy in Columbia. Has he forgotten that Obama will not soon go to war with anyone unless it is an absolute last resort? If this move had come under the Bush administration, I could understand skepticism and worry from Chavez. However I firmly doubt that Obama is planning to invade Chavez. There are simply too many favorable trade agreements concerning oil. Why has the United States never done anything to damage this relationship in the past? Because it is simply too beneficial to the US to stay on decent terms with Chavez.
I would not be upset if the US invaded Chavez, but I know it won’t happen. Do you believe that Obama would really embark on another costly war with a trading ally? Again, if it were another administration I could see it happening. However I just don’t see this playing out with the Obama administration.
