The United States and Columbia have reached an agreement for the US to set up bases in Columbia in order to catch drug organizations throughout Columbia. The foreign minister of Columbia stated, “This agreement reaffirms the commitment of both parties in the fight against drug trafficking and terrorism.”
This deal will allow the US to have 7 bases in Columbia and to utilize aircrafts in order to conduct searches for drugs and drug runners in the region. Additionally the aircrafts would search for drug boats off the coast.
As I wrote earlier, the Venezuelan leader Chavez has stated that the “winds of war” are now blowing. As we all know, the man is off his rocker. For some reason he views this as some sort of rouge to depose him. What he does not realize is that the US devotes billions of dollars to stopping drug importing into the US each year. We are finally becoming intelligent by going to the source to stop the problem. Most of the hard drugs come from Columbia so we will be making a huge step forward by nipping the problem at the source.
I don’t believe that there is anything wrong with this plan to occupy Columbia. I am not worried about the effect it will have on Chavez. Frankly, he needs to get over it in my opinion. I don’t believe that he will do anything because of this. I think he is simply frightened and trying to scare the US off. However as long as we don’t attack Chavez, there shouldn’t be any problems.
