Interestingly Iran is seeking the UN to ban strikes on nuclear sites around the globe. I wonder why Iran would want nuclear facilities to be exempt from war strikes? While this information was leaked from a Iranian nuclear official, the envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency denied the implications of the information. He continued to state that he wished to discuss nuclear issues with the US “without preconditions.”
Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Ali Soltanieh clarified the issue stating that the reference was to a letter sent to the IAEA from Iran asking for attacks on nuclear facilities to be prohibited because of “international issues.”
Obama has currently given Iran an ultimatum – halt uranium enrichment and resume discussions with world leaders or face more difficult and piercing sanctions. My question is how far will it go before Iran will inevitably cave to Western demands. I don’t believe that sanctions are going to get the job done. It is a noble passive path but I believe that Iran won’t truly step in line until we begin to threaten Iran with some real force. I believe that at that point, Iran will fold like origami.
Is there a better way to handle these issues with Iran? I find it comical that the nation is seeking out the IAEA to ban attacks on nuclear facilities. Did they really think they could get that accomplished? I feel as though Iran is operating in a world of hope as opposed to reality. They have to start complying with the demands of nations with greater power and force or they will really be in trouble.
