Earlier I discussed the impact that the cold war has had on the United States and the global community. This war catapulted the US to the place of global power which it currently enjoys today. Furthermore this war shaped our relationship with another great powerhouse nation – Russia. I want to spend some time on the subject of Russia because I believe they are a sleeping giant that we should not awaken. Russia has more serious disdain for the United States than most people realize. People all too quickly forget that the cold war ended less than 20 years ago. That is still an extremely fresh wound. Every political member in Russia was alive and well when the cold war ended meaning that they got burned as their nation lost its chance for the supreme military power. How does this impact us today? It impacts us because Russia is still hungry for world power and a role on the international stage. This means that we need to treat this nation right. Russia represents a huge people group as well as a large trade and military segment. My point is that we should pay close attention to developing mutually beneficial relationships with Russia and China. Both nations have the potential to become formidable threats if we do not continually make them feel welcome and satisfied, all the while meeting our own needs as a country.
If you disagree with me, feel free to say so. Maybe you think we should just tell Russia to step in line and obey with what we say because we are mightier. I don’t believe that is wise but feel free to argue.
