A member of Israel’s missile defense program commented on Iran’s new Sejil-2 ballistic missile program stating that they were at a “technological and strategic breakthrough.” The official continued to say that the missile will be capable of hitting several European countries accurately within a three to four year time period.
Undoubtedly these comments have created a great deal of concern from European nations and from Israel. It is no secret that Israel has been pursuing their chief ally (the United States) to secure the situation and ensure that Iran does not develop dangerous nuclear weapons.
I have to say that I agree with Israel on this issue. I think that the US has given Iran far too much slack with this. The sanctions haven’t gotten the job done thus far. It does not mean that they will not work but it does mean that we should be prepared to stop Iran by force if necessary. I don’t believe we have seriously engaged Iran with threats of war for noncompliance. Iran needs to know that the US and UN will not tolerate continued disobedience and the pursuit of harmful weapons.
Do you think that we have handled the situation with Iran correctly? In my mind I have to say that we have not been aggressive enough. Perhaps you think we have been too aggressive. Whatever you think, feel free to argue your case sighting your rational. As always, thank you for your comments!
