Yesterday I discussed the unnerving missile program which is making great progress in Iran. An esteemed Israeli military official, Uzi Rubin, stated that the new Sejil-2 will likely have a range of 1,560 miles instead of the previously suspected range of 1,250 miles. Additionally he stated that the test on May 20 where Iran successfully tested a solid-fueled missile gives him more assurance that Iran is making great headway. This solid-fueled missile is more advanced technology than traditional weapons made by Iran illustrating that they are making great research progress. If they successfully develop this technology it could lead to several other frightful military innovations.
While there is still some uncertainty, it is generally understood that the Sejil will house a nuclear warhead. As of now, Iran does not have any nuclear warheads. Israel has stated that Iran could have a nuclear warhead developed within a year’s time from the date of commission.
Conversely a report conducted by a US think tank stated that it would be six to eight years for Iran to fully develop thier ballistic missile which would only travel 1,250 miles. Additionally the report stated that it would take Iran six years to build a nuclear warhead.
I have to say that I don’t buy that analysis. There are too many resources in place to develop a nuclear warhead. Sadly I think Israel’s analysis is closer with an estimation of a year’s time for a nuclear warhead. Whatever the true time frame is one thing is for certain, action must be taken to ensure that Iran can never use the weapons they are trying to develop.
