North Korea recently test fired five short range missiles of its coast on Monday. Experts are still deliberating as to whether or not this was an act of rebellion and statement or simply normal military testing. IN the past North Korea has fired test weapons in order to “threaten” the US and UN. However at times it has simply been conducing routine military tests. I can’t help but wonder about the timing of the firing. North Korea met with China’s leader Wen Jiabao last week and stated that they would be willing to come back to 6 party discussions about the North Korean nuclear program only after directly negotiating with the United States. North Korea cited “hostile relations” between the US and itself as the cause for this stipulation. What could North Korea want to discuss with the United States? After all, it is only befitting that we would have a checkered relationship after the way that North Korea has acted over the years. Last year North Korea finally agreed to a disarmament deal in exchange for aid. However when it came time to check up on North Korea they refused UN inspections stating that the inspections were a violation of their privacy. North Korea is a dangerous opportunistic nation and they will never be a friend of the United States.
