Russia Denies Iran Sanctions

Written by Jonathan Formby

The Leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin stated Wednesday that it is still too early to talk about new sanctions against Iran. Last month world powers learned that Iran is not only continuing its nuclear program, it is expanding it. An entirely new nuclear uranium enrichment plant is being built near the city of Qom. When asked about new sanctions against Iran Putin responded that it is still “too early to speak of them. There is no need to scare the Iranians.” He went on to say that “there is a need to reach agreements, there is a need to search for compromises.”

I can’t believe I am saying this but I actually might agree with Putin. The US needs to decide on a course of action and stick to it. As of now, sanctions have accomplished absolutely nothing except to anger Iran further. Iran is becoming more powerful with each day and more of a threat to the global community. It might be time to search for compromises as Putin has suggested.

Do you believe that it is advantageous to compromise with Iran? Does it make the US look weak? I suppose no two situations can be handled in the same manner. Traditionally the US tends to bully nations until we get what we want. However it looks as though Iran is not responding to our bullying through sanctions. All I can say is that we are currently in the middle. The US is not playing hard enough or compromising enough. Instead we are aggravating Iran without pushing them to the point of submission. We need to make compromises or up the heat so that they will cooperate. Either way we are in the middle right now and it is doing no one any good.
