Is anyone else sick of North Korea? The persistent demands are starting to sound like nails on a chalkboard. Yet again North Korea is demanding that the US meet PRIVATELY with them to discuss disarmament. The US continually pleads for North Korea to meet with them in the six party discussions that we once enjoyed. Those discussions aimed at disarmament for North Korea included the US, South Korea, China, Japan, Russia, and North Korea.
North Korea warned that they will “go our own way” unless the United States heeds their demands for two party talks. Where does North Korea get off making these kinds of demands? The continually flip flop back and forth on the six party talks. In October North Korea stated that they would meet again for six party talks if the US would first meet individually with the nation. The US has not met these demands and I don’t believe that they should. With a country such as North Korea they will always take advantage of any leniency or weakness you show them. For example the US did the right thing and bartered with North Korea to give them economic aid in exchange for denuclearization. However once this deal was reached North Korea quickly backed out because they didn’t want any form of accountability. When they found out that UN inspectors would be checking up on them, they claimed it was an invasion of their privacy. Case in point, North Korea needs to be handled harshly because they will take advantage of any weakness that we show them.
