Obama Brings Troops to Afghanistan

Written by USPatriot

Obama stated that he will be pulling thousands more troops into Afghanistan in the coming months. More specifically, he is planning to bring in 30 – 35,000 troops to Afghanistan. The spokesman for the White House, Robert Gibbs stated that “the commander has issued the orders.” Supporters of Obama are falling by the wayside as he has just alienated another chunk of his supporters by prolonging the war and putting more lives in harms way.

The plan is to combat the recent uptick in Taliban insurgents. According to Obama, this increase in troops will help give Afghan security forces the support they need to become independent and keep the country safe.

I am all for getting the job done but I don’t see this move in line with the promises of troop reduction that Obama made during his champagne. What do the rest of you think? Will this move improve security in Afghanistan or is it simply increased risk with adverse financial repercussions?

With regard to finances, The White House spokesman Robert Gibbs elaborated “This is not an open-ended commitment.” In other words, Obama won’t be financing this war indefinitely. It is for a finite amount of time, which has yet to be named. Gibbs further stated the purpose which is “to partner with the Afghans, to train the Afghan national security forces, the army and the police so that they can provide security for their country and wage a battle against an unpopular insurgency.”

Does this move make Obama a zero or hero in your mind? I suppose time will tell. However history does not usually give favor to the leaders who put troops in harms way, regardless of the outcome.
