How pleased are you with Obama’s Presidency? Yesterday I discussed his plan to deploy 30-35,000 troops into Afghanistan to help support Afghan security forces. This plan has been met with everything but enthusiasm for obvious reasons. The war in Iraq and Afghanistan has cost many lives. However the issue more at the heart of US citizens is the cost associated with additional troop deployment and an indefinite war in Afghanistan. In April of 09 the war in Afghanistan had cost the US $171.7 billion dollars since its inception. Several billion has been funneled into the war since then. However military experts agree that the war is not something that should be prematurely ended. Obama has been in regular communication with top generals about the Afghanistan war.
When Obama took office with promises of troop reduction, there were 35,000 troops in Afghanistan. After his surge of troops in February there is now 68,000 troops. With the additional 30-35,000 the US will have over 100,000 troops in Afghanistan.
Support within his own party is now at an all time low while this move is gaining him some recognition from republicans who typically favor war endeavors. There is no question that the addition of troops in Afghanistan will cost billions more dollars and many more lives.
Are you pleased with our Commander? Is he placing his priority in the right place by focusing on Afghanistan?
