Yesterday I discussed the latest update in the Iran nuclear conundrum – The US and five other nations will meet in New York this week to discuss the nuclear dilemma.
Clinton discussed the plans for the sanctions stating, “It is clear that there’s a relatively small group of decision-makers inside Iran. They are in both political and commercial relationships and if we can create a sanctions track that targets those who actually make the decisions, we think that is a smarter way to do sanctions.” She concluded saying, “But that is all yet to be decided upon.”
My honest opinion is that sanctions may not do the trick. For well over a year now we have been engaging Iran through the use of sanctions and the nation has never responded as we have hoped. The reality is inescapable, Iran is a nation with nuclear aspirations and mere inconvenience will not deter them from their lofty ambitions. A while back I had someone respond to one of my posts about Iran. They commented that Iran is seeking after nuclear power because they want to receive validation and they want to be a global player. I couldn’t agree more. If Iran budges now, they will forever seal their fate as a tier two military country. However if Iran takes the gamble and continues the program, there is a chance that they could be a force to be reckoned with – and that is what scares me.
