Over the past couple years the US has met with five other prominent world powers in an effort to merit cooperation from Iran about their nuclear program. Early in the negotiation stages Iran cooperated agreeing to relinquish their nuclear program in exchange for a fair amount of economic aid from the United States. However Iran proved to be seeking the aid of the US without giving up their nuclear program. When the issue of UN inspectors arose, Iran promptly denied the UN nuclear inspectors access to their facility claiming that it was a violation of their rights. After all, why should the US and UN have access to reasonable measure of verification? We probably should have taken Iran at their word, that they would stop development of nuclear facilities . . . not. I am glad that we had the foresight to realize that Iran would not cooperate before we had given them the economic aid.
Since that incident, Iran has failed to cooperate in even the slightest manner. The country will not engage in diplomatic negotiations with the five plus one but has instead demanded a one on one discussion with the U.S. We have tried to implement a number of sanctions all of which have failed miserably. Trying the same thing over and over and expecting a new result is the definition of insanity. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton must be insane because all she wants to do is slap a new label on her sanctions and pretend that she is being proactive. We need to try something new. We need to make some threats and demand cooperation before the situation becomes truly dire. The further that Iran develops their program the more dangerous they will become. Clinton needs to act now and stop the proliferation of useless sanctions.
