Beijing blamed United States for treated the issue of South China Sea (SCS) to be internationalized. The US has long been interested to South China Sea as the States would want a freedom of navigation, an open-access to Asia’s maritime common, and the international law in the South China Sea. This makes frustration of China, since United States joins of interest and now creating a strain between Beijing and Washington in competing territorial claims over the resource-rich area which only China and some countries belonging to the Southeast Asian countries involved.
China’s foreign minister warned the US about the said issue at the height of territorial claims conflict with other few nations. On the other hand, the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in her ASEAN regional forum in Vietnam, speaks for Beijing as seemingly “unfair” by assertively adopting a great stance on the high seas and that, together with ASEAN, would like to resolve the controversial issue.
According to Yang Jiechi in a statement posted on the foreign ministry website, he said in a question about the outcome if the matter is internationalized. It can only make matters at its worst and more complicated to solve. He also added that the best way to resolve this type of disputes is direct bilateral negotiations between the countries involved. Will US still pushes intention? That is the question we’ll find out.
