Are you still wrestling with that one daunting question, “do I have what it takes to make it in the United States military?” Well if you’ve made it to this blog, you’re on the right track. In the days to follow I plan to review basic training for each faucet of the US Military starting with the US Army today. If you need to know if you have what it takes, stay tuned. Those enlisted in the US Military we welcome your input on this matter. If you have any shining pearls of wisdom for the skeptical onlooker please share your experiences. We are grateful for any and all feedback on this matter.
Basic training in the US Army lasts for a grueling nine weeks. During this time, your mental, emotional, and teambuilding strengths will be tested. ‘What will I learn?’ you ask. Great question. In boot camp you will be taught, “rifle marksmanship, hand grenade qualification and other types of firearms and weapons training, intense physical training, as well as a multitude of occupational skills such as medical training, military intelligence, communications, transportation operations, supply management and many more” (USArmy.com).
I would be remiss if I neglected to include the less glamorous aspects of Army Boot Camp. Frank Pellegrini “Want to know what it’s like to be in the Army? Try standing in one place, ramrod straight and perfectly still. If a mosquito bites you, don’t slap it. If sweat rolls into your eye, don’t wipe it away. And if you scratch your thigh, do 20 push-ups and jump back into position.”
There is no question that your perseverance and willpower will be tested. The question you need to ask yourself is, “will it be worth it in the end?” For those of you who have already completed basic training, was it worth it? Please feel free to relay your suggestions and wisdom here in this portal.
