I have heard such cries lobbied against the United States on more than one occasion. Individuals from the United States and abroad have tried to identify America as an International Police Force. If we are a Police Force, is that really a negative thing? What else could someone hope for if not our government which functions based on democracy?
Granted our government is not perfect but I do believe that it is the best option when weighed against a dictatorship or communism. Why is communism steadily declining in this world and free trade gaining popularity? Because it is what most people would prefer. People innately enjoy having choice and options and being respected as human beings. I do not know of any dictatorships that offer such options. However some individuals would say that Americans simply don’t understand those types of governments. Some reporters have even stated that the Iraqi people would prefer that Saddam Hussein had remained in power as opposed to American intervention. Somehow I find such a notion hard to believe.
On a larger scale, one must look at the facts. Though America and our Government as well as our military are not perfect, they do act in a humane manner, which does not force agendas on the people of this country or any other nations. Whenever possible, the United States government provides aid to nations in need.
I would like to know what you think. Are we a Police Force? If we are, is that a negative thing? Hasn’t the world benefited from the economic and social influence of the United States?
