President Bush recently met with the leader of North Korea, to discuss the relationship of the two nations. As I saw this, I couldn’t help but wonder what will amount between the United States and North Korea. It seems that in recent years, the relationship of North Korea and the United States has been characterized by US prevention of North Korea utilizing Nuclear weapons. North Korea has attempted to make peace with the United States lately for fear of possible attacks.
In the press conference, President Bush announced that trade between the two nations would resume once again. This of course signals that the relationship between the United States and North Korea is on the mend. However as I researched our relationship with North Korea, I came across some interesting information. CNN reported today “North Korea was helping Syria build the facility that Israeli warplanes bombed last year.” This facility was one dedicated to nuclear capabilities. If this accusation proves to be true, where does that place us in our relationship with North Korea? There has always been a question of the sanity of the North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il. Can such a person ever be trusted by the United States? The realistic answer to that question is no. Any nation that has nuclear aspirations at any time will be under close supervision by our government. I can honestly say that I am grateful that this is the case.
For the past few years, newspaper reporters have speculated that war might erupt between the United States and North Korea. As of now, diplomacy seems to be working. We can only hope that nuclear aspirations on the part of North Korea don’t lead to war between the two nations.
