Google Earth has revolutionized the way that people look at our world today. With just the click of a button, you can travel to any destination to see an aerial view of that location. This is a beautiful piece of technology indeed. But is it something that could easily be utilized to harm America or other nations? The one reason people argue against such a claim is that the images from google earth are months old. However many military bases around the world do not change there operation every few months.
The United States government has certain military bases/sites censored by Google. Other governments have asked google to do the same. South Korea requested that google censor images of the presidential palace so that images could not be utilized by the North Korean government.
What about the sites that are not currently censored? I ran a google search before writing this blog. I typed in “google earth military” in the first page of results, I found a site that lists the coordinates that you can punch into the search on google earth to view several important military sites such as the pentagon and the Whitehouse. Realistically there has got to be some danger in a piece of technology that is so easily attainable and utilized to gather intelligence. Why has the government not forced google to censor more images of prominent military sites? Do you believe that they should crack down on google? Perhaps there is no mounting danger as a result of google earth. What do you think about this issue?
