What kind of responsibility does the United States have to uphold justice within the global community? Hypothetically, lets say that there is a country committing genocide to some people group. What should the United States government do about such an event? In the past, the United States has turned its shoulder on such events and let them run their course. Can anyone honestly argue that such action is honorable or recommended? Critics against United States war efforts often say that the US should practice a less involved approach towards global affairs. When they say such things, they mean that the United States shouldn’t poke its nose where it does not belong. However to do so would be to neglect the responsibility that we have as a world superpower. For some reason or another, the United States has risen as the most powerful military and economic force history has ever seen. It is our responsibility to ensure that social justice occurs throughout the world when we are able to intervene and make a difference.
If we are not leaving the world a better place than before, what is our purpose as a world superpower? Though what I am saying does not pertain to any one current issue, I believe it is important to contemplate on what the US role in world affairs should be. Realistically, the United States will enter into almost any country in order to establish economic endeavors to benefit our economy. I am merely suggesting that perhaps we should be ready to get involved and help nations as if it were for our own commercial benefit.
