Some Recent Poll Facts

Written by Jonathan Formby

In looking through some recent presidential polls, I found some interesting information. President McCain has openly stated that he might lose the presidential election because of his position in Iraq. His position is that the United States troops should remain in Iraq for as long as it takes. Initially, Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama were thought to have an edge because of their policies which both call for a timetable withdrawal. However a recent poll suggests that there is an even split between Americans supporting and opposing a troop withdrawal. The Pew Research Center found that 49 percent of people said that the troops should come home as soon as possible. However 47 percent of people said that they wanted the troops to stay until the situation stabilizes. What does this mean? It looks as though this Presidential election will be vastly impacted by the candidates’ stances on the War in Iraq. However it remains to be seen which stance the American people will favor. It is likely that there will continue to be a divide between the American people on what they feel should be done in Iraq. However matters such as these are often decided in the last moments of an election. This makes for an interesting and vastly important election process for our next president of the United States.
It is important to remember that the War in Iraq is just one of the hot button issues that will decide our next President. Issues such as health care and economic concerns continue to be of primary importance to the American people.
