Since we recently discussed Hilary Clinton’s views on the war, I thought it would be appropriate to take a look at some statements made by John McCain. Most people are privy to main differences in the Democrats war strategy and the Republicans strategy. However, we recently discussed how Hilary Clinton is fully opposed to leaving any sort of military presence in Iraq. She is currently in the process of promoting this idea throughout congress. This is an interesting view when compared to Senator McCain’s plans. McCain has been quoted saying that he will keep the troops in Iraq for 100 years if necessary. This has sparked criticism from his democratic opponents. McCain recently went on the record to state that people have misunderstood what he meant by that statement. He stated that he believe the war would end soon “for all intents and purposes.” He continued to say, “My friends, the war will be over soon … for all intents and purposes, although the insurgency will go on for years and years and years, but it will be handled by the Iraqis, not by us.” In stating this, McCain is basically saying that he believes the war will end soon but that a lasting US presence will need to be established in that country.
Today, I would like to know if the readers agree with McCain’s assertions that the war will be over soon. If we do not pull our troops out, but let this battle run its course, do you believe the war will end sometime soon?
