Iran is now refusing to answer questions about their nuclear program posed by the United Nations. The UN has sent inspectors to Iranian facilities but has had no cooperation from the Iranian Government. The UN has demanded that Iran suspend it’s uranium enrichment program which was constructed to build nuclear warheads. However, Iranian officials are refusing to answer UN questions which leads many US and UN officials to believe that trouble is brewing.
The United States has gone on record to state that it is “very troubling” how Iran is handling the situation. Iran has been conducting several studies recently, which are of concern to United States and the United Nations. They have been working on a uranium conversion project, trying to design a missile re-entry vehicle and are engaged in other threatening endeavors.
With the United States in a position of concern, what is the best course of action? At this point, I believe that there is still a great deal of speculation in the air. If concrete evidence is established that Iran is still pursuing nuclear aspirations then immediate action should be taken by the United Nations. However as of now, the UN will continue to perform check ups on the Iranian facilities until they can sort this matter out. We can only hope that the Iranian government will begin corroborating with UN officials to solve this problem before it can escalate to something worse.
What are your thoughts about the Iranian enrichment situation? If you have a plan of action for the UN to pursue or just a few thoughts on the issue we would love to hear and discuss those ideas.
