Diplomacy to Handle Iran

Written by Jonathan Formby

Whitehouse spokesperson Dana Perino has announced that the United States will continue to pursue the path of diplomacy with Iran. I would like to know what those of you who are involved in the US Military think about the issues with Iran. Can the United States really afford to get involved in another costly war? Granted their official position is that of diplomacy but what if diplomacy fails?
To continue with Perino’s recent announcement, she said, “I would just characterize it as continued Iranian defiance of international obligations and further isolating its people, but I don’t think that we are anywhere off, that we are at all off the course that we have been on, which is trying to solve this diplomatically.”
She continued by saying that Iran’s continual defiance has done nothing more than restrengthen the international notion that Iran cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons. Any nation that behaves so carelessly and in such an oppositional manner to the global community cannot be trusted with a weapon of mass destruction.
Iran has agreed to have another discussion with the EU negotiators on July 19. I would like to know what the readers of this blog think the key to solving this issue diplomatically would be. As you realize, this is an exceptionally delicate issue. If this issue can be solved diplomatically, what steps will the US and EU need to take to ensure they make the most of this opportunity?
