I was upset and frustrated a number of weeks ago, when the good and decent leadership of the City of Berkeley talked about Banning the Marine Corps from having a recruiting center in their city. I grew up on the West Coast, and I know that as far as liberal wacko wacko goes, the epicenter for the San Andreas fault is in one place, the cross hairs for wacko wacko is in Berkeley. There is a long history of “creative rebellion” (thats a nice way of putting it) at the California town, long known for its unrest and protest.
So, when I read that the City Council had voted to kick the Marine Corp out of town I got mad. I guess I believe that, while I think places like Berkeley will always exist, that the chance for people to serve their country should also exist. But I guess it took the bottom line for the good people in Berkeley to remove their craniums from the nether regions that they had them securely inserted.
Bottom line? Its amazing what a little financial pressure will do. When Six Republican Senators moved to vigourously remove about 2.3 million dollars of funding for the City of Berkeley, why, the misunderstandings and apologies are “flying.”
The Mayor of Berkeley wants to have it known that he is “extremely sorry for any misunderstanding”. Misunderstanding? Sorry Mayor. There is no misunderstanding Sir. Need I quote the public statements you made disparaging the “Industrial Military complex”? Or the “tendency to warp minds and hearts of the youth of America,”?
Nope. No “Misunderstanding,”. But I will acknowledge your backtracking, and the backtracking of your two City Councilmembers now that your funding is challenged. So, Mr. Mayor?
Apology accepted. But dont waste our time saying that you were “Misunderstood,”. We may be Conservatives, but we aint stupid.
Hoo Rah.
