Troops in Afghanistan fought off native insurgents so that they could delver a turbine to the countries largest power station. A total of 4000 troops were brought to deliver the turbine and fight off the insurgents. With this mission going well, it looks as though there is hope for this power station. In the future, with this third turbine, the power station will be able to generate an additional 18.5 megawatts of renewable energy. This is a great step in ensuring a free and secured Afghanistan. To help this country, it is essential that they be not only freed of terrorists, but that they also have access to renewable power. The United States was at the forefront of this effort and has been planning to get this turbine to the Afghanistan facility for a year. With the repair of the second turbine and the addition of the third, there will now be enough power for the South of the country to utilize. A total of 2000 British soldiers were involved in the aid effort with the other 2000 troops being comprised of United States soldiers, the Afghan National Security Officers, Denmark Soldiers, Australia Soldiers, and Soldiers from Canada. The project, which was entirely funded by the US Agency for International Development, will now allow 1.5 million Afghans to have power.
After learning about this successful endeavor to give Afghans in the South much needed power and irrigation, I can’t help but think that we are certainly making progress in Afghanistan. Whether you agree with our troops being there or not, it is hard to argue with something such as this which clearly demonstrates the United States good intentions for the country.
