Since the proposal of the European missile defense system, Russia has been standoffish towards the United States. They have commented that they plan to point missiles at United States facilities if they continue will plans for a European missile shield. Belarus has now commented that they will not respond aggressively to the United States as their long time Russian ally is planning to do. President Lukashenko of Belarus has recently been showing signs of decreased loyalty to Russia and increased friendship towards the United States. Since the soviet period, Belarus has been an unwavering ally of Russia. However it looks as though Belarus will side with the United States about the missile shield which is to be located in Poland, which borders Belarus. Interestingly, Belarus has been classified by Washington as the last dictatorship left in Europe.
Why do you think that Belarus is coming around and siding with the United States? In my opinion, it is all the economic favor that we can offer the nations. Nations such as Iran, which are blacklisted by the United States suffering strict economic sanctions, cannot function well in the global trade market. If you are not allowed to trade with the US and our allies, your country will surely suffer economically. There are no end to the economic benefits that we offer nations who side with us. Take North Korea for instance. We have agreed to pay them so that they can use alternative energy to nuclear fuel.
