President Bush is attempting to make peace and establish diplomatic relations with Iran before his presidency is over. I know that the man has received so much hateful commentary but I for one will stand up and say that I believe Bush has done a good job. I think that he has had an incredible set of problems to deal with, greater than any other president in history. I think that it is the series of problems he has been dealt that has contributed to this distaste that the American community has for president Bush.
Moving on from my commentary on President Bush, we will discuss one of his current endeavors. After stating that he wishes to open a U.S. interest section in Iran, Alireza Jafarzadeh, a representative for the Iranian opposition said, “We have been hearing similar lines for the past two decades.” There is serious distrust between the United States and the regime in Tehran.
So what does a potential agreement for U.S. presence in Tehran mean? In doing so we would be engaging in diplomatic actions and conversations with Iran. This means that we would be on more friendly terms with the nation and we would be less likely to have military conflicts. This in turn would mean the United States would have to spend less money monitoring Iran and worrying about them causing problems.
What do you make of this situation? Do you think that the United States should pursue a diplomatic relationship with Iran? Can they be trusted at all? Should we learn from the past and conclude that Iran is simply no good?
