I have been saying for a long time that the US needs to cut their military spending costs. I would like to distinguish the differences between my plan for cutting costs and Obama’s plan for cutting costs. In June Obama clearly stated that he has no plans of continuing military spending as it has been conducted under the Bush administration. He said, “I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems.” Do these comments make you feel safe? They certainly don’t inspire a lot of trust from me. Cutting the space weaponizing program is one of the most foolish things the young president could do. That is where the future of weapons development lies. What I have always proposed in order to cut military spending is that the United States government and military take a lesson from the Japanese. Plain and simple – the Japanese are efficiency experts. When they set out to do something, they clearly monitor every aspect of the project so that anything that will be done similarly will have a clear model to follow allowing for increased efficiency and money saved. The US military has never needed to become efficient because there has never been any pressure to cut costs. They have had a blank check from congress. I propose that we keep our current military programs but that Obama introduce new plans to revolutionize the industry making it more efficient and less costly. A team of efficiency experts could cut costs in every sector of the US government and military. Not by sacrificing anything, only by realizing areas where things do not run as smoothly and seamlessly as they could otherwise run and then implementing change.
