The US Army Special Forces is now recruiting civilians as well as Army members. Special Forces is an elite sect within the United States military that carries out a broad array of dangerous and sometimes classified missions. Special Forces are routinely deployed for Counter terrorism missions as well as humanitarian efforts.
Direct action missions are “short duration strikes that are used when Special Forces want to seize, capture, recover or destroy enemy weapons and information or recover designated personnel or material.” (GoArmy.com) Green Berets utilize the element of surprise to ambush enemies before they are prepared for an attack. At this point you might be asking, just how dangerous is Army Special Forces. To speak candidly, Special Forces are similar to Navy Seals in that they are always doing one of two things. They are training for a mission, or they are on a mission. If you are a member of the Green Berets, they you are not performing some perfunctory government task, rather you are in the action conducting dangerous missions on enemy grounds.
As you might have guessed, training for the Green Berets is extensive. The following are the minimal qualifications for Special Forces as listed on GoArmy.com

* Be a male, age 20-30 (Special Forces positions are not open to women)
