There was a large demonstration in the Capital of Morocco to protest against the air strikes from Israel on the Gaza strip. In total, more than 200 Palestinians were killed from the air strikes on Gaza. The feud between Israel and the Palestinians is deep seated and laden with complexities you could attain your doctorate discussing. While most of the people discussing issues in this blog may not be experts on the issue, I would still like to know what you make of this feud. Was it appropriate for Israel to bomb Gaza? Should they have refrained from this attack? Is Palestinian retribution in order? More importantly, what should the United States stance be on this issue? Should we rush to the aid of our ally Israel? Should Israel’s enemies be our enemies?
My stance is that Israel has been a faithful ally to the United States. Therefore we should assist them in protecting their nation. The Moroccan Government has called for talks to end the hostilities. I think that the United States should attempt to act as a mediator between the two groups. The best thing we could do is attempt to help Israel practice diplomacy as opposed to fighting.
I discuss diplomacy so much because I believe that many times in our society it is an underrated approach. So many are so quick to allow a conflict to escalate to a physical state. If you can prevent a conflict from getting physical and getting the military involved, it should always be done.
