Russia is a nation that continues to make me slightly concerned. The acrimony that exists between the Russians and the United States is somewhat unnerving. I think it is evident that tensions still run deep after the cold war. They concern me because their military program is rather advanced and they have a history of ambitious military procedures.
The new air defense system that Russia is developing is twice as capable as the United States MIM-104 Patriot system. Over the next four years, Russia plans to invest billions into their weapons production program. Between 2009 and 2001 Russia will invest 35.3 billion dollars to make new weapons. The missile defense system is exceptionally advanced and is capable of destroying enemy targets at up to 2,200 miles away.
Putilin stated that from 2009 to 2011, “Russia will buy 38 military aircraft, six drones, over 60 helicopters, 14 ships, almost 300 tanks and over 2,000 vehicles”
Is it somewhat unnerving to anyone else to see the mass of military expenditures Russia is exhibiting? Does it mean that they are planning for anything in particular? Or is Russia simply practicing a good defensive policy? Should we give full trust to a nation that is still slightly hostile towards us? Are we even capable of going to war if we were to be engaged by Russia? The answer is we are capable but it would be terrible timing. The country has no money and is sick of fighting. It scares me that Russia is so ambitious with their military because we raced against them in the cold war for such a long time.
