Saturday night, the world news on NBC included a segment about a spot near San Diego. It was a small area that had been designed to look like an Iraqi village. Certain of the wounded Vets returning from Iraq had been invited to study filmmaking at that spot.
Those future filmmakers included a number of Marines. The thinking was, that a man who had served in Iraq would do a good job of portraying the atual situation there. Such men were felt to have the potential to make great movies about Iraq.
Since I live in “The Heart of Screenland,” Culver City , CA, I was very interested in thinking about the many movies that Marines might make, once they learn how to direct and to use a camera. I have a book with the history of the Marine Corps until 1942 (the year when the book was published).
I would like to see Marines making movies about some of the episodes in that book. I have decided to encourage such an endeavor by sharing a few stories with the readers of this blog. I will post a different story each day of the remaining days in the week.
I look forward to sharing with my readers tales about the capture of British supplies, the assault on a German-occupied Frence village and other exciting exploits in which the Marines showed their courage.
