So I have a cousin who is currently enrolled in ROTC so that he can pay his way though college. He goes to a small pricey Christian college while a tag of about 30,000 a year for tuition and board. He completed his first two years of school without being in the ROTC. However he realized that when he came out of school he would be leveled by debt. This being the case he decided to enroll in the ROTC program so that the government would wipe his debt away while paying for the rest of his schooling. All in all, he is getting 120,000 worth of schooling paid while also receiving a couple hundred dollars spending money every month. What does he have to do in exchange for this generosity from Uncle Sam? Once my cousin graduates he will serve in the military for a few years before he will be offered the chance to become a civilian again. While he is in the military after college, he will receive a paycheck every month while having all of his expenses met during his service. The only real time he will have to shell out for food or lodging is when he will be on leave. The more I look at this plan the better it appears. I mentioned to him that he is actually stepping in at a great time because the war in Iraq is coming to a close. He responded telling me how relieved he was as well.
