It is becoming increasingly apparent that our economic condition is not going to improve in the coming months. Experts say that we could start to climb out of the woods later this year. However for those of us who are currently experiencing financial hardship, enlisting in the military is looking better and better. It is my prediction that enlistment is going to continue to steadily climb so long as layoffs are prevalent and people are desperate for money. We are fortunate to live in a country that offers good pay in exchange for military service. I count it as a blessing that men and women in the United States do not have to serve if they do not choose to do so. However if one does choose to serve, there are a myriad of financial benefits for doing so.
Should the United States continue to operate with the existing system of enlistment? This is system which is built upon financial opportunities and advertising attracting new soldiers. Contrarily look at the military of Israel. It is a law that every young person must serve in the military for three years. After serving in the Israeli military for three years, the young person has the opportunity to leave service or continue. Do you think the United States would ever employ something like this?
