According to a Russian official, Iran is capable of hitting any spot on the globe with their missiles. Iran has recently launched a satellite which will allow them to pinpoint and target other nations with their missile arsenal. Vitali Lapota stated, “They have shown their missiles can reach any point on the globe.” The launch went up this past Monday signaling that action must be taken before this technology is utilized. The fear is that the nation will pare this technology with their ballistic missiles in order to hit the targets of their choosing.
In the face of these new military developments for Iran, what should the United States do? Should we confront the nation and discuss their plans for this new technology which they have flaunted? It is clear that they wish for the rest of the globe to know that they are capable of firing these weapons and hitting targets. In all actuality, could this be Iran constructing a new bartering chip? In the past it has been a prominent pattern for Iran to develop weapons or make plans to do so in order to gain leverage with the west. It is imperative to remember that Iran is still disregarding the UN orders to stop uranium enrichment. I must admit that I am somewhat surprised Iran is still forging ahead in their ambitions. One thing is for certain, something must be done to disarm this new program or the United States and Europe could be in Iran’s sights.
