The number of nations with nuclear and missile capabilities has steadily been increasing over the years. We are not devoting enough time, funds, and resources to preventing attacks from smaller, less stable governments. Obviously we are always focused on countries like Russia and North Korea. We are continually guarding ourselves against these two nations. But what about all the other countries who might have less than amicable feelings towards the US? Can we really protect ourselves from all the formidable threats that exit today? In order to answer this question we should ask another question: are we doing everything we can to protect ourselves from a foreign attack? I think that the answer to that is a clear resounding “No!” If you look at the trend in the Bush administration, we consistently allocated 1 percent of the nuclear budget towards missile attack prevention. Do you really believe that that is enough to keep us safe? I have said it before and I will say it again, we should be spending more on defensive military procedures than offensive procedures. The ability to attack another country strategically will not always prevent them from attacking our nation. We need to continue to invest even more money into missile attack prevention. I am not saying that the military budget should be increased. On the contrary I think it should be cut and made more efficient. Instead of increasing the budget, we should allocate more funds towards preventative measures which ensure our countries safety.
