I have promised to uncover some exciting stories about the U.S. Marines. In an effort to emphasize stories that might be used in a movie, I am today moving ahead to the time of the First World War.
In June of 1917 a group of young Marines moved on a French village that had come under German control. The Marines wanted to drive the Germans out of Bouresches. In order to do that they would need to confront and defeat a force of 400 enemy men.
The fire from the Germans in Bouresches decreased the size of the Marine force that could storm the village. Only 20 Marines fought with the 400 Germans in that small, French village.
Those few Marines had to overcome 20 to one odds. They did overcome those odds. They defeated the Germans and secured the village for the Allied forces. I think such a victory deserves at least a mention in a Hollywood film. Perhaps a skillful writer could even make the entire fight into a full length feature film.
As the United States approaches the deprture of the last living World War I veteran, it seems only right for Hollywood to consider the creation of such a film. i would love to see that movie made here in Culver City at Sony Studios.
Incidentally, I happen to know that the Marine Corps recruiting station in Culver City is not far from Sony Studios.
