This past Friday, India set up a missile interception test in order to try out their new missile defense technology. The test was part of a larger scale plan to update India’s national defense system by the year 2010. The anti missile equipment was fully functional as it detected and destroyed the missile. In real life scenarios, India hopes that this shield will be able to protect against medium and long range missiles up to 3000 miles away.
Since 2007, India has staged 3 air defense tests which have all functioned as a success. It looks as though this nation is getting their military and defense set up for the coming years. As I stated yesterday, India is vamping up their arms importing in the coming years as well as increasing their national security. Moves such as these will be paramount for any nation wanting economic prosperity. You simply have too little global bargaining power if your military and defense is not adequate.
The greatest advancement in India’s army is that they have acquired and built nuclear capable missiles in recent years. My question is this: how does the United States determine which nations should have nuclear weapons? Obviously nations such as Iran and North Korea would be dangerous with such powerful weapons but are we sure that India can be trusted with nuclear weaponry? Am I the only one that feels iffy about the growing number of nuclear arsenals in this world?
