In a recent interview with the New York Times this weekend, President Obama stated that he would be willing to negotiate a pullout with the more moderate group of the Taliban. It is obvious that President Obama is feeling the economic crunch which is now weighing in on all of us heavier than ever. The war in Afghanistan has dragged on for eight years and could potentially last for several more years. However do we really want to enter negotiations with the Taliban? Is there even a moderate group in the Taliban? The Taliban is basically a group of terrorists which brings up the question, “do we negotiate with terrorists?” It has always been my understanding that United States policy is to never negotiate with terrorists. Would you call the Taliban anything less than a terrorist regime? They are without question one of the most unstable and corrupt governing bodies the world has ever seen.
If I am being honest, I think it’s crazy that Obama is willing to negotiate with the moderate Taliban. There is no such thing as a moderate sect of the Taliban.
Does it bother anyone else that we might pull out of Afghanistan early and leave it to this corrupt divisive group?
Let’s remember why we went to war in Afghanistan to begin with: we went to ensure that the terrorists of 9/11 could not attack us again. We went to ensure that the terrorist regime would be cut off and that justice would be served. Would anyone benefit from a premature pullout of Afghanistan?
