The United States Air Force Academy is located immediately north of Colorado Springs in El Paso County, Colorado. Today, I wanted to discuss some of the perks of enrolling into this fine institution. 100% of the people accepted into the academy receive a full scholarship. This includes tuition, room and board, and books. On top of all this, the academy gives their cadets 500 dollars a month to spend as they please. Basically, getting into the air force academy without any of these perks would be satisfying enough for most students. The academy is one of the toughest universities to get accepted to in the country. It is one of the top Ivy League Universities in America. After graduating from the academy, cadets receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are commissioned as second lieutenants in the United States Air Force.
In order to be accepted to the Academy, candidates must have excellent academic achievement in High School, pass a rigorous fitness test, and candidates must receive a letter of recommendation from a member of congress.
Once candidates have been accepted to the academy, they begin basic training the summer before their academic year starts. It is an intensive five-week program which students call “the beast.” In this program, the cadets are pushed to the brink of physical and mental exhaustion as they are taught to obey orders and band together as a team. It is recommended that those who wish to enroll in the air force academy begin rigorous training in both academics as well as physical fitness as early as seventh grade.
