Several weeks ago, I stopped by the Marine Recruiting Office in Culver City, CA. While there, I got some of the literature that is given to new recruits. I have found that the information in that literature has inspired me to begin a new series of related posts.
The one brochure offerrd a week-by-week view of recruit tranining. Under the picture for week 1, I read these words, ” Recruits arrive at boot camp and learn the core values of honor, courage and commitment. ”
While “values” and “virtues” are not synonymous, I do believe that this is an excellent place to look at both. I plan now to begin a series of posts about honor, courage and commitment. I do not have a “Values Guide,” but I do have a “Virtues Guide.” I plan to offer quotes from that book.
Today, I will include in this post a few quotes about honor:
“Without honor, people act disrespectfully and do things which make them and others feel ashamed.”
“When someone practices being honorable, other people know they can be trusted to do their best and try their hardest.”
“When you are honorable, you are worthy of the respect of others. You set a good example.”
I feel that those two quotes help to highlight the reason that honor is one of the core Marine values. In my future posts for this week, I will offer quotes about courage and commitment.
